OL PARKER
British-born English writer, director and producer Oliver “Ol” Parker was born and raised in London and is half Spanish. His first writing credit was the made-for-TV movie
Loved Up (1995) and he also wrote the script for his directorial debut film
Imagine Me & You (2005) which starred
Lena Headey and
Piper Perabo.
Ol was a writer on the television series
Grange Hll from 1994 until 1996, when he also wrote the script for the TV movie
In Your Dreams (1996). He also wrote the screenplay for the critically acclaimed film
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011) which earned several award nods. A few years later, he returned to the writing desk and completed the screenplay for the film’s sequel,
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015).
Most recently, Ol wrote and directed the critical and box office musical hit
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), which was the highly anticipated sequel to
Mamma Mia! (2008).
In 1998, Ol married actress Thandie Newton, who starred in the TV movie
In Your Dreams (1997) for which he contributed the script. Together they have three children: two daughters, Ripley and
Nico, and their youngest, a son named Booker Jombe.
In order to avoid confusion with fellow director Oliver Parker, who directed the film
An Ideal Husband (1999), Ol legally changed his name from Oliver to Ol.
