Matthew Morrison grew up as an army brat in Fort Ord, California. At a young age Matthew was enrolled at a theater camp and developed an interest in performing arts. He attended the Orange County High School of the Arts, where he showed talent both as a performer and soccer player. Upon graduating, Matthew moved to New York to attend NYU. He began studying musical theater, dance, and vocal performance at Tisch School of the Arts, but later dropped out after being cast as an understudy in the hit Broadway musical Footloose.
In 2002 Morrison was cast as Link Larkin in the stage musical Hairspray. While starring in 2,600 performances, Matthew also managed to squeeze in guest appearances on television series such as Sex and the City and Hack. In early 2004 he left the cast of Hairspray and a year later starred in the original musical Light in the Piazza. In 2006, he was cast in 22 episodes of the soap opera As the World Turns. During that time he became engaged to actress Chrishell Stause, but they split up less than a year later.
Morrison was also in the 2007 off-Broadway production 10 Million Miles, playing Duane. After being a part of Broadway's 2009 production of South Pacific, Matthew got his big break the following year when he was cast in the hit television series Glee as a young teacher. In addition to working on Glee, Morrison was also signed with Mercury Records to record his own album.
After Glee concluded in 2015, the talented singer and actor could be seen on the big screen as Scotty in the romantic drama After the Reality (2016), and Mattheus in the period drama Tulip Fever (2017). However, he's also kept busy on the small screen with recurring roles on acclaimed series such as The Good Wife in 2016, Grey's Anatomy from 2017 to 2018 and American Horror Story in 2019.
Matthew Morrison married model Renee Puente in 2014. Their son, Revel James Makai Morrison, was born in October 2017.
