Madhur Mittal is an Indian actor best known for the role of Salim Malik in the 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle.
Madhur was born in Agra, India. He began acting when he was a child, appearing in movies and famously winning the Indian reality dance show Boogie Woogie in 1997 by impersonating Michael Jackson. “I was a great Michael Jackson fan and even wore my hair and dressed like him,” said Madhur in an interview with rediffnews.
Shortly after, his family moved to Mumbai where he attended Abhinav Degree College. Madhur started acting and dancing on stage in different charity shows, cultural events and award ceremonies. He travelled the world performing in over 950 stage shows. As a child actor he worked in Hindi films such as One 2 Ka 4. Madhur has also appeared in several TV shows.
In 2008, Madhur landed the role of Salim in Slumdog Millionaire, which gained him worldwide attention. In order to prepare for the role he hung out with some of the gangsters in Mira Road, a western suburb of Mumbai. Also, around that time Madhur had an accident, which led to him getting 12 stitches on his chin. This accident changed his look and helped him look like the character he had to play in the film.
In 2009, along with the rest of the cast of Slumdog Millionaire, Madhur won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 15th Screen Actors Guild Award.
Since then, Madhur has appeared on TV in Treasure Island and Kidnap and Ransom. In 2014, Madhur portrayed Dinesh Patel, a baseball player, in Million Dollar Arm. The film also stars Jon Hamm and Suraj Sharma, best known for his role in the 2012 film Life of Pi.
