Date of Birth: January 13, 1990

As the younger brother of Chris and Luke Hemsworth, both working actors on various Australian television series, it's no surprise that Liam Hemsworth wanted to emulate his brothers and take up a career in acting.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Liam lived with his parents, Leonie and Craig, and two brothers. When he was in high school, the family decided to move to the small beach town of Philip Island.

Hemsworth decided to try his hand at acting when he was in high school and hired an agent. He had his first successful audition when he was 16 years old, in an episode of the television show Home and Away, followed by another guest role on McLeod's Daughters.

In 2007, Hemsworth started filming episodes for the popular Australian soap opera Neighbors, playing athletic paraplegic Josh Taylor, opposite his brother Luke, who'd been playing Nathan Tyson on the show since 2000. In 2008, Liam tried a less intense role as Marcus, lead guitarist of the Elephant Princess band in the children's television show The Elephant Princess, also with Luke, who played Uncle Harry. Liam later had roles in the television series Satisfaction and starred in the British film Triangle. He also made a brief appearance as an MIT student in the film Knowing alongside Nicholas Cage.

But Hemsworth's journey to Hollywood wasn't smooth sailing. In 2009 he was supposed to play the role of Sylvester Stallone's son in the movie The Expendables but was later cut from the script. Not long after, Hemsworth received a call from director Kenneth Branagh to audition for the lead role in Marvel Studios' Thor, but the role went to his brother Chris. Liam moved to Los Angeles and finally achieved his first starring role in a major motion picture in Walt Disney's adaption of Nicholas Sparks' The Last Song. Hemsworth's co-stars in the film included Greg Kinner, Kelly Preston and teen star Miley Cyrus, who played his love interest.

In 2012, Hemsworth landed two huge roles. First was a part in the highly-anticipated on-screen adaptation of The Hunger Games, in which he played Gale Hawthorne, best friend and hunting partner of the lead female character, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence). He also appeared in the sequel The Expendables 2 alongside Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He starred in the corporate espionage thriller Paranoia (2013) and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013). He then starred in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015).

The rising actor can now been seen as David Kingston in the western drama The Duel (2016), as Jake Morrison in the sci-fi action sequel Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), and as Teddy McSwiney in The Dressmaker (2016) alongside Kate Winslet.

Hemsworth began dating Miley Cyrus in 2009, however, their relationship stalled in 2014. The couple eventually got back together in 2016 and were married in December 2018. They were divorced by January 2020.
