Born: May 13, 1986
Born in New York City to a painter father and a photographer mother, Lena Dunham is best known for her HBO TV series Girls (2012-2017), which she created, wrote and starred in, as Hannah Horvath. For her work in Girls, she received eight Primetime Emmy nominations and won a BAFTA TV award and a Golden Globe, as well as two Writers Guild of America awards.
She also began directing during the run of Girls, which earned her a Directors Guild of America award in 2013. She went on to direct the critically acclaimed period film Catherine Called Birdy (2022) starring Bella Ramsey.
In 2017, Lena played Valerie Solanas, the real-life woman who tried to murder Andy Warhol on the seventh season of the American horror anthology series American Horror Story: Cult.
More recently, she produced and played a lead role in Treasure (2024), as the music journalist daughter of a Holocaust survivor.
In 2021, Lena married composer Luis Felber.
