Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Hu hails from Chinese, Hawaiian and English ancestry. Following high school, she began a modeling career, and won a local beauty pageant. By 1985 she was crowned Miss Teen U.S.A., an honor that prevented her from modeling for a year, but allowed her to travel all over the States.
When the year was over, she was contracted to a number of modeling assignments including four months of work in Japan. With her modeling career well underway, Hu left her native home for Los Angeles where she landed numerous commercial assignments including Vidal Sassoon, Ivory Soap, Bud Light, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Television roles were soon to follow with small roles on shows like Growing Pains, Night Court, 21 Jump Street, Melrose Place, Murder One, The Sentinel and Nash Bridges. By 1992 she had a regular gig on the day time drama The Bold and the Beautiful, playing Trish, and in the mid '90s Hu landed more regular work on the series Nash Bridges, Sunset Beach, Hollywood Squares and Martial Law.
She returned to the Beauty Pageant world in 1993 and strut her stuff with the rest of the contestants as Miss Hawaii in the Miss USA Pageant.
In 1991 she landed her first role in a major motion picture, The Doors. Her following feature choices were few and in poor taste with showings in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (1991) Surf Ninjas (1993) and Fakin' Da Funk (1997). She landed her first starring role in the big budget film The Scorpion King (2002) opposite WWF wrestling star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Hu's interests include karate and ballet. She currently resides in Brentwood, California and is dating talent manager Gordon Gilbertson.
