Born: August 20, 1971
Born in Vietnam, Ke Huy Quan and his family left the country when Ke was seven years old. They emigrated to the United States in 1979, where Ke was enrolled in school in California.
By the time he was 12, Ke had landed the plum role of Harrison Ford's sidekick Short Round in Steven Spielberg's adventure film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), after the casting director came to his school to audition children for the role. The following year, Ke joined a number of other child actors in The Goonies (1985).
He then worked in foreign films, including the 1986 Taiwanese movie It Takes a Thief and the Japanese movie Passengers (Passenjā Sugisarishi Hibi) (1987). At the same time, he played Sam on the CBS sitcom Together We Stand and then from 1990 to 1991 played Jasper Kwon on the ABC sitcom Head of the Class. More onscreen work followed, but the parts were few and far between, so he quit acting and began to study film at the University of Southern California. This kept him in film and television, albeit behind the camera.
When the feature film Crazy Rich Asians was a hit in 2018, Ke wondered if he should try returning to acting, his first love. With his wife's encouragement, he decided to give it a go and auditioned for the role of Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once. He landed the role and the imaginative film was a hit with critics. He soon began to make the rounds of film festivals, winning a slew of awards, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.
Roles have opened up for Ke Huy Quan since then. He's been cast in the TV series American Born Chinese as Freddy Won and has joined the cast for the second season of the Disney+ Marvel series Loki.
He is close friends with his Goonies co-star Jeff Cohen, who is also his entertainment lawyer. Ke Huy Quan is married and lives in Los Angeles.
