Karyn Kusama Overview

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Kusama graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in film. Her thesis film, Sleeping Beauties, won a Mobil award in 1991. Following school, she wrote and directed the film Girlfight, which was a hit at the film festivals of 2000. The film shared the Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize (with the movie You Can Count on Me by director Ken Lonergan) and won for best director.
