Karen Moncrieff Biography

Date of Birth: December 20, 1963

Born in California, Karen Moncrieff was raised in Michigan and studied performance at Northwestern University before moving to New York. Her first role was as Patricia Murphy on the daytime soap opera The Guiding Light in 1986. Moncrieff moved to Los Angeles the following year to accept the role of Gabrielle Pascal on Days of our Lives. She stayed with the show until 1989, when she moved to the daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful, playing Michelle Brookner for a year. By now a familiar sight to daytime television fans, Moncrieff switched soaps again, this time landing the role of Cassandra on Santa Barbara. She left the show after two years to make her feature film debut in Midnight Witness (1993). The same year she landed her first television movie, Perry Mason: The Case of the Killer Kiss, as well as guest appearances on TV series such as Silk Stalkings, Renegade and Wings.

Moncrieff made several more movies and guest appearances as an actress, but eventually decided to try her hand at directing. After completing a certificate program in film studies at Los Angeles City College, she made her directing debut in 1991 on an episode of the TV series Six Feet Under. She has also written and directed several short films, including the award-winning Galatea's Make-up.

Now a triple threat, Moncrieff also wrote the screenplay for her feature film directorial debut - Blue Car (2003). The film won praise at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up for distribution by Miramax. Blue Car went on to win an award at the Woodstock Film Festival and as well, Moncrieff received the Nicholls Fellowship in Screenwriting for her screenplay.

Moncrieff makes her home in the Los Angeles area with her husband, Michael Price, whom she married in 1989.
