Although Josh Holloway was born in San Jose, California, his family moved to Georgia when he was just two, where he was raised. Following high school graduation, he attended the University of Georgia, but dropped out after a year to become a model. He eventually wound up in Los Angeles, where he began landing small roles in TV shows and movies, including guest appearances on Angel, Walker, Texas Ranger, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The Lyon's Den. He also appeared in music videos for Aerosmith and Billie Myers.
However, he first became known for his role as the charming conman Sawyer on the hit ABC TV series Lost. After shooting the pilot for the TV series, he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Yessica Kumala, and they were married on October 1, 2004, just as Josh was beginning to gain celebrity status. The couple moved to Hawaii, where the show was filmed, for the next six years. He was nominated for numerous awards for his work on the show, winning a SAG Award along with the rest of the main cast in 2006 for "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series" at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and after being nominated for a saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, he finally won one in 2010 as "Best Actor on Television."
During his time on the series, Josh's busy shooting schedule kept him from doing several plum feature film roles, although he managed to fit in time for the independent films Hellion (2006) and Stay Cool (2009), the latter with Winona Ryder and Sean Astin.
Josh was named one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" by People magazine in 2005. In 2007 he was chosen as the new face for Davidoff's "Cool Water" fragrance worldwide. In 2008 he was included in the top ten list of TV Guide's Sexiest Stars.
When Lost came to an end in 2010, he worked on the major motion picture Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011), starring alongside Tom Cruise. He has also completed a starring role in the Screen Gems film Planet B-Boy. He most recently starred in dance flick Battle of the Year (2013).
Josh and his wife have a daughter, Java Kumala, born April 9, 2009.
