Born in New Jersey, John Francis Bongiovi Jr. burst into the music scene in 1984 with his band's self-titled album, Bon Jovi. Appreciated by both critics and fans, Bon Jovi went on to make several more recordings with his band before going on to record solo -- including Blaze of Glory, the soundtrack for Young Guns II (1989), a film he also had a brief, non-speaking cameo role in. He was bitten by the acting bug and began learning the craft under the tutelage of legendary drama coach, Harold Guskin.
"I had no intention of ever getting into the movies," Bon Jovi states. "But I was driven by the music I wrote for Young Guns. The next thing I know, I win a Golden Globe, I'm nominated for an Oscar [for his song Blaze of Glory] and performing at the Academy Awards. I'm looking out at the audience and I go: 'This doesn't suck.' So I wanted to do it again."
In 2002, he stepped away from the big screen to make his television debut with a highly publicized role on the sitcom Ally McBeal as Victor Morrison, stepping in when Robert Downey Jr. was unable to continue his commitment to the show after being arrested on drug charges. After the show ended in 2002, he returned to the big screen in the horror films Cry Wolf (2005).
He has been married to his wife, Dorothea, since 1989. They have four children together.
