In the trailer for The First Purge, we're shown how the Purge began. Dr. May Updale (Marisa Tomei) reveals that the Purge is a psychological device so that Americans can release all of their anger in one night. An announcement is made saying that all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 hours. However, a lot of good people refuse to participate and try to prepare themselves to save everyone they can.
