English actress Jodie Comer hails from Liverpool, United Kingdom. She grew up in a nearby suburb and attended a Catholic high school. While there, Jodie performed a monologue at the school talent show. This caught the attention of her drama teacher, who helped her book her first acting job in a BBC Radio 4 play.
In 2008, Jodie's professional career took off when she earned a guest role on a British medical soap opera. She followed this up with multiple appearances on other British television series, including a lead role on the five-episode drama series Justice (2011), and guest appearances on episodes of Doctors (2012), Law & Order: UK (2013), and Vera (2013) Also in 2013, Jodie earned a lead role as Chloe on the teen comedy-drama series My Mad Fat Diary (2013-2015).
In 2016, Jodie was cast in her first starring role as Ivy Moxam on the BBC Three miniseries Thirteen. Her performance landed her a nomination for Best Actress at the British Academy Television Awards. Later that year, Jodie was listed as one of Screen International’s "Stars of Tomorrow." In 2017, Jodie made her feature film debut in the Morrissey biopic England is Mine.
Jodie is best known for her role on the BBC spy thriller series Killing Eve (2018-2021). In it, she plays Villanelle, a Russian assassin who becomes obsessed with Eve, Sandra Oh's titular character. For her performance in the series, which required her to swap between multiple accents, Jodie was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and three British Academy Television Awards. In 2019, she won all three awards in the Best Leading Actress category.
In December 2018, it was announced that Jodie would star in an action comedy alongside Ryan Reynolds. Filming commenced in May 2019, and Free Guy was released in 2021. In it, Jodie plays Milly, a game developer who helps Reynolds’ character save his world. She also stars in The Last Duel (2021), a historical drama directed by Ridley Scott.
In 2018, British Vogue listed Jodie as one of 2018’s "Most Influential Girls." In 2019, Forbes included Jodie in their annual "30 Under 30" list, for her work in the European entertainment industry.
