American director/actor and writer Chandrasekhar attended Colgate University where he achieved his BA in History before completing the New York University - Tisch School six-week intensive Film Production program.
He became a freelance editor in 1993, working for a number of studios in New York where he also worked as a post-production manager, film editor, on-line editor and post-production supervisor. By the mid-'90s he had participated in a number of independent feature films including American Buffalo (1996), Celluloid Closet (1995), I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), SubUrbia (1996) and Lone Star (1996) while working as producer John Sloss' assistant.
He also found time to write, direct and star in his first independent feature, Puddle Cruiser (1996), which was the winner of the Hamptons International Film Festival's Grand Prize for Best Film and screened at the Sundance, London Int'l, SXSW and Berlin Int'l film festivals. He followed his debut feature by directing five national film spots for the Coca Cola Company and short comedy films.
Chandrasekhar started off this millennium with his second independent feature, Super Troopers, which he once again wrote, directed and starred in. In 2001 he set his sites on television, directing for sitcoms Undeclared and Arrested Development for the Fox network, before returning to the big screen as the director, co-writer and star of Broken Lizard's Club Dread (2004).
Unfortunately, he received a Razzie Award nomination for his next film, The Dukes of Hazzard (2005), starring Jessica Simpson, although the film had respectable returns at the box office.
Chandrasekhar is married and has one child with his wife, Susan.
