Jason Mantzoukas was born in Nahant, Massachusetts, and is of Greek descent. While in high school, he was the drummer in a band called Slygoul. He then attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where his interest in comedy developed. After travelling around the world for several years, he began training as a comedic actor at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York.
During this time, Jason began to stand out as a promising performer on the New York comedy scene. Along with friend Ed Herbstman, he formed the comedy team called "The Mantzoukas Brothers," named 2006's Best Improv Duo by Time Out New York. His early success in improv made for a pretty quick transition into film and television. His first feature film role was in the black comedy Terrorists (2004).
He has since appeared in many high profile comedies over his decade-long film career, such as Baby Mama (2008), I Hate Valentine's Day (2009), The Dictator (2012), Neighbors (2014) and Sleeping with Other People (2015).
Jason has also had recurring roles in a number of popular television shows, including Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, Enlightened, Bob's Burgers, Broad City and Transparent.
The comedic actor is also an accomplished writer, co-penning the screenplay for the Kevin Hart and Ice Cube comedy Ride Along.
Jason was most recently seen with Zac Efron and Robert De Niro in the 2016 comedy Dirty Grandpa, as well as the comedy The House (2017).
