GARY STEVENS

Date of Birth: March 6, 1963

Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens made his acting debut in the Hollywood blockbuster Seabiscuit (2003), playing jockey George "The Iceman" Woolf. Stevens was born on a farm in Idaho, where his father trained horses. When Gary was six, he was diagnosed with a degenerative hip ailment and had to wear a brace. Although the doctors told his parents he would need to wear the brace for years, Gary was determined to overcome the problem sooner and through sheer willpower, he managed to walk again without it in only 18 months.

Stevens rode his first race at the age of 14 and when he was 16, left home to race fulltime. Throughout his career, he has raced at every racetrack in North America, as well as overseas in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Dubai, Ireland and France, winning more than 4,700 races.

His mounts have earned more than $200 million collectively, and he has had eight victories in Triple Crown races, including three Kentucky Derby titles. His autobiography, entitled The Perfect Ride, was published in 2002. He has four children and his home in Southern California overlooks the Santa Anita racetrack. For relaxation, Stevens enjoys golfing.
