Fred Hechinger Biography

Fred Hechinger, who was born in New York City, was named for his grandfather, The New York Times education editor Fred M. Hechinger. The younger Fred attended Saint Ann's School with fellow actors Lucas Hedges and Maya Hawke on the Upper West Side. 

He studied comedy acting at the Upright Citizens Brigade, a training ground for many of today's comedy actors. Fred made his motion picture debut in Eighth Grade (2018), playing the role of Trevor. 

A small role in Vox Lux (2018) starring Natalie Portman followed, and in 2019 he played the lead role in his friend Maya Hawke's music video, To Love a Boy. The same year he co-starred in the dramatic film Human Capital, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

He was soon gaining roles in major films such as News of the World (2020) starring Tom Hanks and The Woman in the Window (2021) starring Amy Adams. 

When he landed the role of Quinn Mossbacher in the first season of the HBO original series The White Lotus in 2021, Fred gained even more notice. The following year he co-starred with Nicolas Cage in Butcher's Crossing (2022) and played Cadet Randolph Ballinger in The Pale Blue Eye (2022) starring Christian Bale. 

In 2024, Fred played the charming grandson (Danny) of June Squibb's title character in Thelma, and also appears as Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon in the Sony film Kraven the Hunter, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe. 

Fred, who still lives in New York City, enjoys swimming and dancing in his spare time.
