Fala Chen is a Chinese actress and singer. Born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, she later emigrated to Atlanta, Georgia in the United States at the age of 14. After graduating within the top 10 of her class, she would later go on to attend Emory University's Goizueta Business School for Marketing and International Business in 2005.
To help pay her way through college, Fala took part in several pageants during her term breaks. Chief among them being the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2005, which was hosted in Hong Kong by TVB, where she represented New York. It was in this pageant that she finished first runner up, which helped launch her career in entertainment.
Following the Miss Chinese International Pageant, Chen signed an eight-year contract with TVB starting out as a host on a variety of TV programs before making her acting debut on the TV series Forensic Heroes. Chen finally began to break out after roles in TV series such as Heart of Greed, The Family Link, and Steps, with the rising actress winning a best actress award for the latter.
After starring in several more dramas Chen decided to go back to school following the end of her original contract. Now self-managing her career, she was given more freedom to pursue other avenues, which included attending Juilliard in New York City from 2014 until she graduated in 2019.
Upon her graduation she immediately landed the role of Jolene on the HBO limited series The Undoing starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.
Chen made her Hollywood feature film debut in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), playing Jiang Li, the mother of Shang-Chi. Next up, she played Iwi Queen in Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire (2024).
