Eva Green was born in Paris, France, to a show business family. Her mother, Marlène Jobert, and her aunt, Marika Green, are well-established actresses in France. Eva's father, Walter Green, is a dentist but he has also acted professionally.
After graduating from a three-year drama program at the Eva St. Paul School and attending a two-month workshop at London's Webber Douglas acting school, Green returned to Paris to launch her career on the stage. She appeared in Turcarcet and Jalousie en Trois Fax, receiving a Les Molieres nomination for Best Female Newcomer. Green made her film debut was in The Dreamers (2004), in which she appeared nude for several graphic sex scenes. The film received mostly unfavorable reviews, including one from the Boston Herald that read, "Can sex be boring? The answer is yes, if the actors have been cast primarily for their looks," while Time called it "Grim and joyless." Nonetheless, Green received a Best Actress nomination at the 2004 European Film Awards.
Green next played a supporting role in the French film, Arsène Lupin (2004), before landing a starring role opposite Orlando Bloom in the Ridley Scott epic, Kingdom of Heaven (2005). In 2006 she became a Bond girl when she played the role of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale (2006). She can be seen playing the role of the powerful witch, Angelique Bouchard, in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows (2012). More recently, she starred in 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) alongside Sullivan Stapleton and in Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) an din The Salvation (2015).
