Ebon Moss-Bachrach is an American actor who recently transformed from a quietly respected character actor into a household name, thanks to his Emmy-winning role on The Bear. Raised in Massachusetts by parents who ran a music school, Ebon earned a BA in English Literature from Columbia University before turning to acting, studying at the William Esper Studio in NYC.
He gained early recognition in films such as The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Mona Lisa Smile (2003), Stealth (2005), The Lake House (2006), and Lola Versus (2012). On television, he became known as Desi Harper in on Girls (2014-2017), where a recurring role blossomed into a series regular due to his compelling performance.
In 2017, he played David "Micro" Lieberman on Marvel's The Punisher (2017), and took on the dramatic lead as Chris McQueen in AMC's NOS4A2 (2019-2020). His breakout came with FX/Hulu's The Bear (2022-present), where his portrayal of Richard "Richie" Jerimovich earned him two consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, his role on The Bear also earned him a Critics' Choice Award and nominations from the Golden Globes and SAD Awards.
Expanding into blockbuster territory, Ebon stars as Ben Grimm/The Thing in Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. He is set to reprise his role of The Thing in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Known for his grounded presence and emotional depth, Ebon continues to expand his range while maintaining a private life. He shares a home in New York City with his wife and photographer and artist Yelena Yemchuk and their two daughters.
