Born in Tipton, Missouri, David Koechner studied Political Science at the University of Missouri. However, his main love was comedy and acting, so he moved to Chicago to study with legendary improv teacher Del Close. He also studied with Chicago's ImprovOlympic improvisation troupe before joining the Second City Touring Company, where he was spotted by Lorne Michaels, creator of the late night TV series Saturday Night Live.
