Born: January 04, 1980

D'Arcy Carden, born in Danville, California, is a classically trained actress and comedian who rose to prominence through her improvisational work at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade before breaking out on screen.

She became a household name with her Emmy-nominated performance as Janet, the lovable AI, on the TV series The Good Place (2016–2020). She further showcased her range as Natalie Greer on Barry (2018–2023), balancing comedy and drama with memorable depth.

D'Arcy's versatility has led her to leading roles on the Prime Video series A League of Their Own (2022), playing the relentless coach Greta Gill, and dramatic turns in the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale as Aunt Phoebe, a pivotal figure in Gilead’s rebellion.

On the big screen, she has appeared in Other People (2016), Bombshell (2019), The People We Hate at the Wedding (2022), Shotgun Wedding (2022), and the fantasy adventure Sketch (2025), starring alongside Tony Hale.

A gifted voice actor, D'Arcy has lent her talents to animated series such as Dragons: The Nine Realms (2021-2023), American Dad! (2018-2025), Robot Chicken (2019), and Archer (2020). She also made surprise cameos in Netflix projects such as the comedy series Nobody Wants This (2024) and A Man on the Inside (2024).

A former UCB troupe member turned screen standout, D'Arcy remains one of modern comedy’s most dynamic and underutilized talents — a performer who effortlessly draws both laughter and emotional resonance. She was the longtime nanny for comedian Bill Hader’s children before her big break on The Good Place.

D'Arcy has said the job helped support her acting dreams and gave her plenty of real-life comedy material.
