Born: February 10, 1986
Christopher Abbot was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, to Anna and Orville Abbott. He grew up in a working-class neighborhood and worked at a local video store as well as his friend’s wine store.
Christopher attended Norwalk Community College before he studied acting at HB Studio, a non-profit organization offering professional acting training. In 2006, he moved to New York City to be closer to school.
After the move to New York, Christopher began auditioning at large open calls for plays while attending school. He booked his first two roles in off-Broadway productions. The first play was Good Boys and True, which opened in the spring of 2008, where Christopher played Justin, the gay best friend of the protagonist. The second play was Mouth to Mouth, which opened in the fall of the same year.
Christopher followed these roles with his on-screen debut, guest-starring on the comedy series Nurse Jackie in 2009 and on the police procedural Law & Order: Criminal Intent in 2010.
The next year, Christopher made his feature film debut in the drama Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) opposite Elizabeth Olsen, directed by Josh Mond. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received positive reviews. The same year, Christopher made his Broadway debut in The House of Blue Leaves with Ben Stiller and Edie Falco.
In 2015 he teamed up again with Josh Mond and starred in James White (2015), which received positive reviews. Christopher was nominated for Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards and Best Actor at the Gotham Awards.
After spending most of his career in independent films, Christopher returned to television as Charlie Dattolo in the HBO comedy-drama series Girls. He starred on the first two seasons before leaving after season two due to not being able to relate to the character. He would return as a guest star in the series' fifth season.
In 2019, Christopher starred in the Hulu limited series Catch-22 as Yossarian. Christopher’s performance was met with praise, and he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the Golden Globes and Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television at the Critics' Choice Awards.
In 2025, Christopher brought to life one of cinema’s most iconic monsters in Wolf Man (2025) opposite Julia Garner. To play the werewolf, Christopher did a lot of research before filming began to nail the primal nature of the monster. He says that he had to research more National Geographic than other films. ~Ryan Donahue
