Born: October 11, 1941
The son of a man who was one of the founders of the Director's Guild of America, Shyer spent his youth in Los Angeles. After completing his degree at UCLA, he worked briefly as an assistant director and a production manager before becoming a writer. After a number of years, Shyer was promoted to head writer for the hit comedy series, The Odd Couple. Other sitcoms like Getting Together and Happy Days were soon to follow.
