Britt Allcroft Biography
When British-born Britt Allcroft was just a teenager, she sent a letter to the editor of English Vogue who found her writing so compelling, she called Allcroft in to discuss writing for the magazine. By the time she was 17, Allcroft had her own radio show; then began to work in television and events. She quickly rose through the ranks to become a producer and co-founded The Britt Allcroft Company (later acquired by HIT Entertainment).
In the late 1980s, she co-created the television series Shining Time Station in the United States, collecting multiple awards including an Emmy, Parents Choice Award, Action for Children's Television and a Gemini Award. She then went on to create and produce the award-winning television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends featuring the voices of George Carlin, Ringo Starr and Alec Baldwin. In 2000 she made the leap to director with the feature film Thomas and the Magic Railroad, starring Mara Wilson and Alec Baldwin.
Allcroft continues to produce for television, including the romantic drama Dance Hall, the reality series Women's Lives, and the children's show Cubley and the City Kid. Allcroft's love of storytelling, creativity and imagination led her to start her new production company, Britt Allcroft Productions, to create entertainment for all ages to enjoy. Britt is an active member of The Sundance Film Institute, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts and she is a Fellow of The Institute of Directors. Allcroft is also a founding member of the emerging Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica, California. She has two children.
