Born in Hollywood, California, Brad Mirman attended Beverly Hills High School. While living in a small apartment in West Los Angeles, he was making money writing short stories and had begun working on a novel when he started writing a screenplay. He had never attended college or taken a screenwriting class, but it was obvious he had a flair for writing when his spec script Partners in Crime sold to Paramount in 1989 after a bidding war. His next screenplay, Knight Moves (1992) starred Christopher Lambert and Diane Lane. Mirman spent every day on the set reworking scenes, and his hard work paid off when the film won a Critics Award at the Cognac Festival du Film Policier. For his next screenplay, Body of Evidence (1993) starring Madonna, he only visited the set once, then stayed away because he was so upset with the changes to his script. The film was nominated for six Razzie awards, winning one for Madonna as Worst Actress.
Kiefer Sutherland directed and starred in Mirman’s screenplay Truth or Consequences, N.M. (1997) and again, Mirman spent every day on the set, rewriting scenes with Sutherland during lunch. For Resurrection (1999), Mirman wrote a screenplay based on a story he’d written with actor Christopher Lambert. The two worked together again in Gideon (1999), a story about a man (Lambert) with the mind of a child. However, although it received wonderful reviews from those who were fortunate enough to see it, the film was never released in theaters. After several more screenplays, Mirman decided it was time for him to direct one of his own scripts. He made his feature film directing debut with the comedy Crime Spree (2003) starring Harvey Keitel and Gérard Depardieu. The movie won the Audience Award at the Commonwealth Film Festival. Mirman plans to direct Keitel and Depardieu again in his next film, Shadow Dancer, to be released in 2004.
Mirman married Delphine Wilhelem in 1996 but they are now divorced. He has lived in several different locations, including Paris, London, San Francisco and Buenos Aires.
