Aubrey Plaza Biography

Aubrey Plaza is an actress who became a household name due to her comic style and timing. She co-starred as April Ludgate alongside Chris Pratt in the popular TV sitcom Parks and Recreation.

Aubrey began her career as an intern. After performing improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, she appeared in the web series, The Jeannie Tate Show. She then went on to star in films such as Funny People (2009) and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010). She followed these up with films like Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), 10 years (2012), The To Do List (2013), and About Alex (2014).

She starred in films that include the comedy Dirty Grandpa (2016) alongside Zac Efron and Robert De Niro, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) once again alongside Zac Efron, and Joshy (2016) with Lauren Graham, which was written and directed by Aubrey's boyfriend at the time, Jeff Baena.

From 2017 to 2019, Aubrey played the role of Amahl Farouk/Shadow King in the FX series Legion, which was critically praised along with her performance.

In 2021, she made her directorial debut on the Showtime anthology series Cinema Toast for the episode titled “Quiet Illness.” In 2022 she produced and the starred in the independent film Emily the Criminal, which received critical acclaim. That same year she was also cast in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, which earned her an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

That same year, Aubrey reprised her role as Julie Powers in the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. An animated adaptation of the popular comic book in which the original movie adapted.

In 2024, she joined the Marvel Universe as Rio Vidal in the Disney+ series Agatha All Along with Kathryn Hahn.

In 2011 she began a relationship with writer-director Jeff Baena and the two were married in 2021. Jeff died by suicide on January 3, 2025.
