Born: November 01, 1991
Anthony Ramos Martinez was born in New York City. He is of Puerto Rican descent and grew up in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn with his mother, older brother, and younger sister.
Anthony was musically inclined from a young age. While in high school, he performed Motown songs at assemblies with the Halsey Trio, a student group. He graduated in 2009 and later attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, graduating from the musical theatre program in 2011.
By 2012, Anthony had earned roles in a variety of musical productions, some better known than others. One such role was Sonny de la Vega in a 2012 production of Lin Manuel Miranda's In the Heights. From there, Anthony's career skyrocketed after he earned the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Hamilton, another musical by Lin Manuel. The show opened on August 6, 2015 and after receiving international acclaim, Anthony left the original cast in November 2016.
Anthony appeared in the feature film A Star is Born (2018) with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in 2018. He also appeared in Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019) and lent his voice to the character of King Trollex in Trolls World Tour (2020).
The year 2020 was a big one for Anthony. He appeared in the filmed recording of Hamilton (2020) on Disney+ alongside the other original cast members. It was also announced that he would play the leading man in In the Heights (2021), a film adaptation of the stage musical. In the Heights was originally slated for a 2020 release but it was ultimately pushed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2021, he appeared in two TV series: two episodes of Blindspotting for Starz and six episodes of the HBO series In Treatment. Voice work followed in the animated film The Bad Guys (2022), playing the role of Piranha, and an episode of the TV series Fables (2022).
Back on the big screen, he played Noah Diaz in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023), Marcos Garcia in Dumb Money (2023) and Javi in Twisters (2024).
As well as appearing on Broadway and in film, Anthony has signed a record deal with Republic Records. His debut album was released on October 25, 2019.
Anthony began a relationship with Jasmine Cephas Jones, his Hamilton co-star, in 2015. They were engaged in 2018, but broke up. He is now dating Spanish singer-songwriter Eva Ruiz.
