Anna Kendrick grew up in Maine and caught the acting bug early. After appearing in local productions of stage musicals, including playing the role of Tessie in Annie at age six, by the time she was 10 she convinced her parents to drive her to New York for auditions. At 12, Anna won the plum role of Dinah Lord in the Broadway musical High Society. She received a Tony Award Nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical, becoming the second youngest performer ever to be nominated for a Tony. Anna won Drama League and Theatre World awards as well as Drama Desk and FANY award nominations for her work in the production.
She followed that up with roles in several other theater productions, including A Little Night Music for the New York City Opera and Broadway workshops of Jane Eyre and The Little Princess. Anna made her feature film debut in the low budget indie movie Camp, which became a darling of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. Her performance in the cult hit earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination as well as a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Annual Chlotrudis Awards.
She next starred in Rocket Science as an ultra-competitive high school debate team member. The film received a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and Anna was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film.
In 2008, Anne was seen in the feature film Twilight and the following year, reprised her role as high school student Jessica in the sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. She also appeared in the third and fourth installments, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011).
In between filming Twilight movies, Anna found the time to star in Up in the Air (2009) opposite George Clooney and Jason Bateman. For her work in the film, she received both Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
Anna also appeared in the film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) opposite Michael Cera. In this dramedy, she played Stacy Pilgrim, the sister of Cera's character Scott Pilgrim. She went on to play a mom-to-be in the romantic comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting (2012) and was heard in the animated flick ParaNorman (2012), voicing the character Courtney. Some of her other 2012 releases include The Company You Keep, End of Watch and Pitch Perfect, which went on to be a huge hit.
In 2014, she returned to her musical theater roots in the big budget star-studded movie musical Into the Woods, based on Stephen Sondheim's Tony award-winning stage show. At the other end of the spectrum, she starred in the indie film Happy Christmas (2014), a movie with no script that was made on a budget of $80,0000. She went on to play a supporting role in Cake (2015) opposite Jennifer Aniston and reprised her role as Beca in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015).
In 2016, Anna appeared in the quirky hitman comedy Mr. Right, co-starring Sam Rockwell, the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates alongside Zac Efron, the crime thriller The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, and the animated feature Trolls with Justin Timberlake.
Her latest projects include the comedy Table 19 (2017) with Lisa Kudrow and June Squibb, Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) and the thriller A Simple Favor (2018), with Blake Lively.
She played the lead role in the Christmas holiday comedy Noelle (2019) for Disney+ and she once again lent her voice to the sympathetic Poppy for the animated sequel, Trolls World Tour (2020).
Anna Kendrick lives in Los Angeles. She's been in a relationship filmmaker Ben Richardson since August 2014.
