Anna Cathcart was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is of Chinese and Irish descent and has an older sister.

Anna's older sister began acting before her in commercials for brands like Crayola and Campbell’s Soup. She says that her sister, as well as performances she watched on Disney Channel and Netflix is what inspired her to start acting.

Anna was discovered at the age of 12 and was asked to audition for the TVOKids and PBS Kids series, Odd Squad. She booked the role of Agent Olympia and made her debut in the season two premiere in 2016. She played the role for 36 episodes from 2016 to 2022.

Anna was nominated for Best Performance, Children’s or Youth, at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2018. The series was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Media – Enhancement to a Daytime Program or Series.

In 2017, she was cast in the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants 2, where she played the role of Dizzy Tremaine. She would reprise her role in the third film Descendants 3 in 2019.

The same year as Descendants 2, Anna was cast in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) at the age of 14. The film starred Lana Condor and Noah Centineo with Anna portraying Kitty, the younger sister of Lana's character, Lara Jean.

In 2019, Anna made a guest appearance in the series Dino Dana, which aired on TVOKids and Amazon Prime Video. Her performance won her a Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance in a Children’s or Youth Program or Series.

Anna would reprise her role as Kitty in the To All the Boys sequels — To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020) and To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021).

In 2021, it was announced that Anna would continue as Kitty in her own spin-off series on Netflix titled XO, Kitty. During filming of the series, Anna was attending the University of British Columbia, where she was studying sociology and creative writing. Anna loves school and says that she feels lucky to have the chance to follow both of her passions.
