Born: January 31, 1987
Anjana Vasan was born in Chennai, India to a Tamil family. The family moved from India to Singapore when Anjana was four years old for her father's job in finance. She attended the National University of Singapore, taking theatre studies before relocating to the United Kingdom, where she graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a Master of Arts in acting.
Anjana made her television debut on the British series Fresh Meat (2011) and continued acting in small roles until she landed the starring role as Vaseem in the film Mogul Mowgli (2020). She is also known for her role as the Queen's Reporter in Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019). For her role as lead guitarist Amina for an all-girl Muslim punk band on the Peacock TV series We Are Lady Parts (2021), she received a BAFTA TV nomination for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, and another BAFTA TV nomination in the Leading Actress category for her starring role as meek shop assistant Nida Huq in Demon 79, the final episode in Season 6 of the hit series Black Mirror (2023).
Onstage, her role as Nora in an adaptation of Ibsen's A Doll's House. earned her an Evening Standard Theatre Award Best Actress nomination in 2019. In 2023, she played Stella in a West End production of A Streetcar Named Desire opposite Paul Mescal as Stanley. Both won prestigious Olivier awards for their work in the play.
Back on the big screen, Anjana played the prominent role of PC Gladys Moss in the film Wicked Little Letters (2023), alongside Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.
When she's not acting, Anjana plays guitar, sings and writes songs. She has has released two EPs: Too Dark for Country and Strange Country Jukebox. ~Mackenzie Heidrick
