This Chicago native studied theater under acclaimed actor John Houseman at the University of Southern California. He began his career as an actor and screenwriter before turning to directing TV shows, and movies for television and finally making his feature film debut behind the camera with It Takes Two starring Kirstie Alley, Steve Guttenberg and the Olson twins, Ashley and Mary-Kate.
Since then, he's directed hits such as Ever After (1998) starring Drew Barrymore, Anna and the King (1999) starring Jodie Foster and Sweet Home Alabama (2002) starring Reese Witherspoon.
