Born and raised in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, England, Andrea Riseborough began performing at a young age. As a child, she has referred to herself as "geeky" and preferred to read plays than watch cartoons. After being bored in school, she dropped out and took on some part-time jobs before securing a place at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA).
Since graduating in 2005, she has been busy acting in many different venues including film, stage and television. The actress has gained sucess starring in movies such as Never Let Me Go alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley and Brighton Rock, which debuted at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.
Andrea can be also seen in W./E., directed by Madonna, playing the character of Wallis Simpson, an American woman with whom King Edward VIII (James D'Arcy) fell in love.
Some of her most other works include roles in hit films such as Birdman (2014), Nocturnal Animals (2016) and Battle of the Sexes(2017), as well as the dark comedy The Death of Stalin (2018). She also appears in the horror film Mandy(2018) alongside Nicolas Cage. More recently, she starred in The Grudge (2019), a twisted new take on 2002 Japanese horror film Ju-on: The Grudge. She also starred in Canadian director Brandon Cronenberg's sci-fi horror, Possessor Uncut (2020).
For her work in To Leslie (2022), about a Texas women who wins the lottery and then quickly squanders it, Andrea received an Academy Award nomination.
The international actress is classically trained in ballet. She is also an alto singer, qualified stage fighter and a dance teacher in genres such as contemporary, jazz, tap and modern.
