AMANDA DETMER

Date of Birth: September 27, 1971

Born in California and raised on a farm, Amanda Detmer became interested in acting while watching her brother perform at a community theater. She took a beginning acting class at Chico State and really liked it.

After graduating from California State College, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. During (and following) her education, she continued her training by performing in a number of plays such as Othello, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Importance of Being Earnest.

In 1995 she made her first screen appearance, playing Dannie Baldwin in the telefilm, Stolen Innocence. Four years later, Detmer landed her first feature film role, playing Miss Minneapolis in Drop Dead Gorgeous with Denise Richards and Kirsten Dunst.

Following a short stint on the series Ryan Caulfield: Year One, she made great strides with a featured role in the ensemble of the teen thriller Final Destination, followed by a regular role on the sitcom M.Y.O.B., in addition to taking on a co-starring role in the college-set romantic comedy Boys and Girls.

The first year into the new millennium was a biggie for Detmer who picked up starring roles in the three films: Saving Silverman, A Little Inside and The Majestic, with two more starring roles the following year in Big Fat Liar and Kiss the Bride.

Although her film career has her well underway to becoming a household name, she continues her stage career, performing in such plays as Amadeus.
