Alexander Everett Moffat was born in Chicago, Illinois, graduating from Denison University in 2004. He's a comedian who started his career in Chicago as an improviser. He was a featured performer at The Second City, ImprovOlympic, Annoyance Theatre, and Zanies Comedy Club.
Alex tried his hand at acting in 2013 when he guest starred as a henchman on the series The State of Us. After also guest starring on the 2014 miniseries Couch Surferz as Brock, in 2015 he made his feature film debut in Uncle John (2015) with John Ashton.
While slowly building his acting career, Alex’s comedy career took off in 2016 when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. He made his debut on October 1, 2016, after auditioning for three previous seasons. Alex developed a reputation for his impression skills with some of his more notable ones being Eric Trump, Joe Biden, and Chris Hemsworth. In 2020, Alex played Biden during the cold open of an episode, taking over the role iconically played by Jim Carrey. Alex would leave the show in 2022 at the end of the 47th season.
While a part of the cast, Alex made appearances in a variety of films such as Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), The Opening Act (2020) with Jimmy O. Yang, and Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021).
After leaving, Alex appeared in the films 80 for Brady (2023) with Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field, and Excessive (2023) with Joshua Jackson. He also appeared as the character of Josh for four episodes of FX’s award-winning series The Bear.
That same year Alex appeared on Broadway as a part of the cast of The Cottage.
The next year, Alex appeared on the Apple TV series Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn. He played the role of Evan Shook for eight episodes.
In 2025 he played Rawn in the Amy Schumer comedy Kinda Pregnant (2025).
Alex is married to Caroline Rau and together they have a daughter. ~Ryan Donahue
