Adam Noah Levine is perfect as a mentor on television show The Voice, as he’s known his share of success and failure in the entertainment industry. Of mostly Jewish descent, Adam grew up in Los Angeles. He has a brother Michael and following his parent’s divorce, also has stepsister, Julia, and a half-brother and half-sister, Sam and Liza.
Adam was in high school when he started playing the guitar. In 1994 he was the guitarist in the group Kara's Flowers at Brentwood School with group members Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick. The group released an album called "The Fourth World" in 1997 but due to its lack of financial success, the band split up. After dropping out of Five Towns College, a music and performing arts school on Long Island, New York, Adam and Jesse returned to California. Guitarist James Valentine joined the former Kara’s Flowers band in 2000 to form Maroon 5. The band released their first album, Songs about Jane in 2002, with hits like “She Will Be Loved” and “Sunday Morning.”
In 2004, Maroon 5 earned their first Grammy Award for best new artist and won Grammys for best pop performance in 2005 and 2007. The group’s success also created a sex symbol status for Adam. People magazine named Adam “Sexiest Man Alive” in November 2013. More success for the band came from the album Hands All Over (2010), which featured the hit song "Moves Like Jagger," which eventually rose to No. 1 on the Billboard chart.
Adam’s foray into television came in the form of an appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2007. Adam showed his comedic and musical side again during a 2009 guest appearance on the television show 30 Rock. American Horror Story allowed Adam to show his dramatic side. He appeared three times in the 2012 series. The Voice in 2011 was Adam’s first full time television role, where he was both coach and judge to reality contestants.
Adam could not ask for better co-stars than Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley for his feature film debut in Begin Again (2014). His character is Dave, an entertainer who drives his college sweetheart, Kiera’s character Greta, away.
In 2016, Adam is set to appear in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
On July 19, 2014, Adam married model Behati Prinsloo.
