Interview: Ruba Nadda (Cairo Time)

Toronto's own Ruba Nadda directs the beautiful feature Cairo Time. In the film, Patricia Clarkson stars as Juliette, a Canadian magazine editor who travels to Cairo to meet her husband only to be told he is unavoidably delayed in Gaza by his work. Feeling terribly guilty, he sends his friend, a retired Egyptian police officer named Tareq (played by Alexander Siddig), to pick her up. While Tareq serves as Juliette's tour guide the two strike up an unexpected friendship and bond in a way that catches them both completely off guard.

In an interview during the Toronto International Film Festival, Nadda tells Tribute's Bonnie Laufer that she was pretty much over the moon when her first two choices (Patricia Clarkson and Alexander Siddig) accepted the lead roles. Ruba discusses the challenges of shooting in Egypt but admits it was a dream come true to shoot in the country and would return there to make another film in a heartbeat.
