Chris Weitz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon) Interview

When it was announced that Catherine Hardwicke would not be helming New Moon, the next installment in the Twilight series, the internet was abuzz with who would be taking over the directing duties.. The honor went to Chris Weitz, who gave us About a Boy and The Golden Compass. Weitz was thrilled at the chance to tackle the effects-laden thriller and was instantly smitten with the cast that set the tone in Twilight.

In New Moon, Edward Cullen's (Robert Pattinson) one true love, Bella (Kristen Stewart) has much heartache to contend with. After she recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, Bella looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family. However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella's blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens, who decide to leave the town of Forks, Washington for Bella and Edward's sake. Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even closer friendship with her childhood pal Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Of course, Bella is never safe. There are surprises at every turn, including a life-altering secret from Jacob.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Chris Weitz in Los Angeles about the pressure of taking over the reins in this wildly popular series, what it was like to work with the cast and his impressions of how the stars are handling all of the media coverage and their newfound fame.
