Interview: Alexander Siddig (Cairo Time)
In Cairo Time, Patricia Clarkson stars as Juliette, a Canadian magazine editor who travels to Cairo to meet her husband, only to be told he is unavoidably delayed in Gaza by his work. Alexander Siddig stars as Tareq, her husband's friend and a retired Egyptian police officer he sends to pick her up. While Tareq serves as Juliette's tour guide, the two strike up an unexpected friendship and bond in a way that catches them both completely off guard.
The handsome and talented actor, probably best known for his role as Dr. Bashir in the popular television series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," sat down for a chat with Tribute's Bonnie Laufer during the Toronto International Film Festival to discuss his work in Cairo Time. He immediately was impressed with his beautiful Canadian director Ruba Nada, who approached him to star in the film. Siddig, who had been to Cairo before, was thrilled to have the opportunity to return there to work. He absolutely was in awe of working with his Oscar nominated co-star Patricia Clarkson and was more than happy to play tour guide for her both on and off set.
The nephew of actor Malcolm McDowell, Siddig told Tribute that he was definitely not a child when he was finally allowed to watch his uncle's performance in A Clockwork Orange. And what advice did his famous uncle give him about acting? "Just get the wardrobe right, make sure you look good!"
